I quite truly have the coolest job. Sometimes the hours are rough and the time spent in front of the computer screen means I’m way overdue for new glasses since from all the time staring at the screen but…I get to go to work to do this. I was lucky, blessed, whatever you want to call it, to cover Coachella back in April and while I was working press, I met a couple of people who were there covering the festival. When I got home I got in contact with some of them and one friend had a place for me to do some freelancing for music blog called The Owl Mag covering shows in San Diego. Be still my heart, you mean my job is going to rock concerts and getting to take my camera with me. It really is as awesome as it sounds.
Anyway, this is Spanish Gold and the folked the roof off of Sodar Bar back in June. They have some really funky, folk rock beats, and warmed up one of San Diego’s chillest venues with a really mellow vibe. Lots of of twangy guitar, tambourine and harmonized vocals. The lead singer is from City and Colour and the drummer is from My Morning Jacket so if they seem familiar that might be it. If you haven’t checked out their album South of Nowhere, scroll down and there is a playlist at the bottom of this post. Enjoy!
